UGANDA COFEE DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY LATEST JOB VACANCY IN UGANDA : RECRUITMENT FOR REGIONAL COFFEE EXTENSION OFFICER 2 POSITIONS (VACANCIES IN UGANDA 2011)

About this job

The Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) was established by statutory mandate in 1991 following the liberalization of the coffee industry. The Statute mandates UCDA to: "oversee the coffee industry by supporting research, promoting production, controlling the quality and improving the marketing of coffee in order to optimise foreign exchange earnings for the country and payments to farmers". In order to fulfill its mandate, UCDA wishes to recruit self-motivated and committed persons to fill the following positions;

3. REGIONAL COFFEE EXTENSION OFFICER - 2 vacancies
Department: Production Department
Reports to: Principal Development Officer
Job Summary: To coordinate all the districts' coffee activities

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Implement and supervise coffee nursery development programs in the Region
2. Select and train farmers for coffee replanting and advise them on safe and economic use of chemicals in collaboration with local leadership and other stakeholders
3. Maintain a surveillance and advise the Authority on coffee diseases and pests status for necessary actions
4. Participate in work plan and budget development, and prepare accountability for all coffee distributed/planted within the districts
5. Collect coffee production and marketing data and administer questionnaires on coffee matters in the respective area of operation
6. Register primary processing factories and enforce coffee regulations by periodically checking on farmers, buying stores and processing factories for compliance
7. Collect coffee samples and forward them to the Coffee Quality and Regulation Services Department for assessment
8. Compile activity reports in line with the established reporting guidelines
9. Promote new technologies which have been developed by coffee research and disseminate them to farmers

Job requirement

Minimum requirements
The successful applicant must have:
1. A bachelor's degree (hons) in Agriculture.
2. At least 2 years' working experience in nursery activities and planting demonstrations.
3. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Willingness to work upcountry
