WWF UGANDA LATEST JOB VACANCIES IN UGANDA: RECRUITMENT FOR PARTNERSHIP AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIP OFFICER (VACANCIES IN UGANDA 2011)

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is a global conservation organization with operations in over 100 countries. WWF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Programme Office (WWF ESARPO), through WWF Uganda Country Office, implements a number of national programmes for promoting environment conservation in Uganda. WWF Uganda Country Office is inviting applications from suitable candidates for following position based in Kampala.


Position title: Partnership & External Relations

VI. Mission of the Department: To ensure that WWF Uganda develops and maintains strong and effective partnerships towards the implementation of the WWF Uganda Conservation Strategy.

VII. Major Functions:
• Ensures that the WWF Uganda Country Office develops and maintains positive and effective partnerships and purposeful relationships that are relevant to the implementation of the Conservation Strategy;
• Promotes the vision and objectives of the WWF Uganda Strategic Plan to external and WWF stakeholders;
• Participates in resource mobilization for implementation of WWF activities.

VIII. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develops and implements a Partnership Strategy that supports the WWF Conservation Strategy and that ensures the very best of relationships with partners, donors and others;
• Ensures that all personnel understand the importance of the Partnership Strategy and how it relates to them, and that they are fully involved in its implementation;
• Ensures excellent relations with key government partners are kept, and puts in place systems that maintain these;
• Ensures effective engagement of strategic partners, especially civil society groups and traditional leadership;
• Develops strategic partnership-building / fundraising approaches with government, donor, civil society, corporate, and WWF stakeholders;
• Support, backstopping, guidance and training of WWF Uganda staff in partnership matters at all levels;
• Supports the Conservation Manager in timely technical and financial reporting to donors;
• Facilitates the strategic engagement with relevant international and national stakeholders on conservation and related issues;
• Maintains a database of information relating to partners, donors, their individual requirements and goals, and such other details as are relevant to the development and maintenance of those partnerships;
• From time to time develops and manages MOUs as and when they need arises;
• Develops a network of purposeful relationships that supports the Conservation Strategy;
• Develops, through contacts with influential Uganda nationalities, a "Friends of WWF Uganda" that can promote the Conservation Strategy;
• Works closely with, and seeks support from, the Country Director, Heads of Departments and their teams, WWF International, and other WWF offices as appropriate to undertake the above tasks most effectively; and
• Performs other duties as requested by the WWF Uganda 'Country Director.

IX. Profile Required

Qualifications
• University degree in Business Management, Development Studies, Mass Communication or related fields;
• Proven track record in successfully managing inter-institutional relations, preferably in the development field;
• At least 3 years professional experience in inter-institutional relationship management;
• Knowledge and experience of the realities of development issues, donor institutions, and the not-for-profit sector;
• Experience in resource mobilisation at local and international levels will be an added advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies: '
• Excellent understanding of development partnerships, fund-raising, donor strategies, functions and international relations;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; other languages would be a help;
• Excellent inter-personal skills, and ability to maintain strong relationships, mediate on issues, chair meetings and resolve conflicts;
• Strong cross-cultural skills and versatility in dealing with different types of partnerships;
• Personal integrity with an honest and open style approach to work;
• Approachable, and an ability to engage partners at all levels; and
• Adherence to WWF's values, which are: Engaging, Optimistic, Determined and Knowledgeable

X. Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Partnership & External Relations Officer is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of all WWF Uganda staff in the Partnership & External Relations Department. The Partnership & External Relations Officer will involve himself as appropriate in the hiring, development, and evaluation of all Partnership & External Relations Department staff.

XI. Working Relationships:
Internal: Interacts with the WWF Uganda Country Director and staff on a daily basis, and as required coordinates and interacts with the Nl teams, ecoregion teams, species teams, and WWF Eastern and Southern Africa, WWF International, and other WWF Network staff.

External: Interacts with national governmental institutions, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, the media, donors, specialists / consultants, and other stakeholders, in collaboration with the WWF Uganda Country Director.
