Position: WASH Innovation/Private-Sector Coordinator
Report to: WASH Program Officer
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Introduction: World Vision is implementing a five-year WASH project in 10 of its Area Development and Recovery Programs in northern, central, and western Uganda. The project goal is to significantly improve child well-being by enabling families and communities to achieve sustainable access to safe water, j improved sanitation, and to practice good hygiene. Access to safe water will be addressed using a variety of appropriate technologies for each unique situation. Both households and schools will be served. The project will address Uganda's sanitation challenge by using the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) methodology, reinforced by the Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) methodology, among others. Hygiene promotion will be addressed both in schools and at the household level.
Whilst the above approaches are standard best practices to
implementing WASH programs, we are seeking to position World
Vision at the cutting edge of the WASH sector in Uganda through
incremental and transformational innovations that will significantly
improve our program impact.
Role of the Position
We are seeking a WASH Innovation/Private-Sector Coordinator who will work closely with field teams and the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) unit to identify incremental and potentially trans¬formational innovative approaches that are targeted to improve:
• WASH program delivery
• Water system design
• Hygiene promotion approaches leading to measureable behaviour change
• Demand and economic-driven sanitation solutions
• Sustainable maintenance of WASH systems

The development of these innovations will need to be carefully documented and built into action research in order to provide solid basis for scale up.
Major responsibilities
The WASH Innovation/Private-Sector Coordinator will:
• Oversee 'new product' development activities
• Discuss 'business' requirements with project teams, partners and contractors
• Create detailed project design and implementation documents and approaches, while also assessing project plans and evaluating potential feasibility concerns
• Take leadership in documenting project best practices and disseminating these learnings with project partners and key stakeholders

Job requirement

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Success factors of suitable candidates include: creativity ambition, the ability to "think outside of the box", an analytical inclination, problem-solving aptitude, natural networking ability, an entrepreneurial spirit, a 'business mind', and strong communication skills.
Academic requirement: A Bachelor's degree in WASH related disciplines (e.g. water engineering, public health, environmental science, hydrology, etc.) or a Bachelor's degree in social sciences, business, communication, or related disciplines coupled with practical WASH working experience.
Employment experience: Proven WASH-related community development work experience.
