DFID LATEST JOB VACANCIES IN UGANDA: RECRUITMENT FOR ECONOMIST

The Department for International Development (DFID) is leading the British government’s fight against world poverty. Our client DFID Uganda seeks to recruit a dynamic, experienced and adaptable individual to join its country team.

DFID Uganda is seeking a resourceful, experienced professional to fill the vacancy of Assistant Economist based in the DFID Uganda Office in Kampala. The Economist will lead on economic appraisals and economic analysis.
The Assistant Economist will play an active role in the Donor Economist Group. He/she will work closely with the Economic Adviser, but will be part of a multi-disciplinary advisory team that consist of Advisers on Growth, MDG Results, Health, Governance, Social Development and Recovery and Development for Northern Uganda.
Main tasks
• Undertake Economic Appraisals for new DFID Uganda programmes;
• Contribute economic inputs at other stages of the project cycle, e.g. annual reviews, project completion reviews, designing logframes and designing suitable indicators for measuring and monitoring impact and value for money;
• Produce quarterly economic briefing (and ad-hoc briefing when needed) for the office. This involves tracking major economic trends (for example, food and fuel prices, inflation, exchange rates etc.);
• Actively participate in the Donor Economist Group (DEG) and disseminate key messages to the wider office:
• Produce briefing for IMF and WB boards.
• Management of Strengthening Evidence Based Decision Making (SEBDM) project
• Leading on Aid Effectiveness for DFID Uganda
The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative skills to analyse economic data; experience of conducting economic appraisals with a view to advising on value for money; knowledge of economic institutions in Uganda and their databases (e.g. Bank of Uganda, Ministry of Finance and Uganda Bureau of Statistics) and ability to communicate advice persuasively to both economists and non-economists.
Requirement:

* A Masters degree in Economics and at least 5 years relevant experience as an applied economist * Experience of cost-benefit analysis and economic appraisals * Experience of macroeconomic analysis * Experience in project management * Excellent organisation and time management stalls, communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
