Post: Finance Assistant II

Grade: GS - 4
Duty Station: Kampala
Type of Appointment: Fixed Term
Duration of Contract: One year with possible extension

Purpose of the post:
Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will provide services in accounting to support the UNICEF Country Programme; assist in preparation of periodic accounting records and reconcile data for recurring or special reports; obtain approval for cheque clearances and issue cheques; generate e-banking batches for payment; compile and verify budget and accounting data; maintain contacts with local banks for verifying accounts status; verifying currency exchange rates and similar direct transactions; assist newly arriving or departing staff members on opening or closing bank accounts, exchanging currency and other financial matters; assist in the downloading of weekly account receivable report and update VAT monitoring worksheet.

Required Qualifications, Competencies and Attributes
 Completion of secondary education. Formal training in accounting for at least one year. Ability to operate PC, calculator or other machines used to maintain accounts.
 Three to four years general clerical experience, some of which has been in an accounting clerical activity.
 Excellent computer skills with an accent on financial accounting programmes.
 Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local working language of the duty station is required. Knowledge of another UN working language is an added advantage.
 Good writing and communication skills
 Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
