KUMI COU Hospital in Uganda is urgently seeking the services of an orthopedic surgeon to head its Orthopedic department. The individual is expected to lead a team of dedicated medical officers, orthopedic technologists and orthopedic assistants providing subsidized and non discriminatory care to a rural population in Eastern Uganda.
Job description:
1. To conduct both elective and emergency orthopedic surgery.
2. Accept referrals from other hospitals, review records and plan management options.
3. Examine patients, order X-rays and other diagnostics.
4. Plan specialized after surgery care, coordinate the follow up of medical support and monitor the recovery of patients.
5. Oversee recordkeeping and all required surgical and hospital records for the department as needed.
6. Teach and mentor a team of medical officers, nurses and orthopedic technologists, assistants.
Required qualifications and attributes:
i. English speaking Medical Doctor with postgraduate training in orthopedic surgery.
ii. Must be certified and licensed with own National regulating body.
iii. Able to work in a Faith based health facility and resource-constrained environment.
Terms:
This is a full time salaried position. The hospital is unable to provide support for travel costs to and from Uganda. Free accommodation is provided within the hospital grounds. The length of contract is 1 – 3 years but short term volunteers (3 – 6 months) are also welcome.
