PRO BRONO LATEST JOB VACANCY IN UGANDA : RECRUITMENT FOR PROGRAMME OFFICER (VACANCIES IN UGANDA 2011)

Uganda Law Society (ULS) is a membership organization established by an Act of Parliament to provide services to its membership and the people of Uganda in general. Its vision is to excel as a professional body in the development of legal profession and promotion of justice in Uganda. Its mission is to improve the professional standards of members of the legal profession, and to promote human rights, and the rule of law, by assisting the Government and the judiciary in the administration and practice of law in Uganda for the benefit of the people of Uganda,
The Society is seeking for qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following positions;

2. PROGRAMME OFFICER PRO BONO
The programme officer will be under the direct supervision of the Manager Pro Bono and overall supervision of the Head Legal Aid and Pro Bono services. He/she is responsible for assisting the Manager Pro Bono in coordinating and implementing the Pro Bono scheme.

Job Description:
• Receiving and interviewing Pro Bono clients,
• Preparing and submitting monthly progress and activity reports to the Manager Pro Bono,
• Regularly maintaining an updated database of allocated cases and their status
• Regularly maintaining an updated database of advocates enrolled into the scheme
• Conducting research and preparing briefs and opinions for the Manager Pro Bono,
• Representing pro-Bono clients in courts of law and any other forum when need be.
• Representation of ULS at various forums ancillary to the Pro Bono scheme activities,
• Assisting in the designing and implementation of strategies to endear the Pro Bono scheme to the ULS membership, JLOS members and other stakeholders
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director, Head Legal Aid and Pro Bono Services, Manager Pro Bono and other supervisors.

Job requirement

Person Specifications:
• LLB and post graduate diploma in legal practice
• Must be enrolled with at least two years of working experience of active practice and qualified to appear before the High Court.
• Knowledge of Luganda will be an added advantage.
