The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is seeking qualified candidates for the following post(s):
Grade: GL-4
Location: Entebbe
POST OPEN FOR UGANDA NATIONALS ONLY

Duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Human Resources Officer, the Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for the following duties (as this is a generic vacancy announcement, not all duties will be performed in the context of a specific post):

• Review documents prior to initial appointment of National staff members, including marriage/birth certificates of dependents, certificates, etc.
• Raise personnel actions for initial and extension of appointments.
• Establish entitlements accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with the Staff Rules and Regulations.
• Review claims for the Medical Insurance Plan (MIP).
• Ensure staff is on payroll monthly.
• Review separation actions ensuring timely submission to Finance/Payroll.
• Brief staff on their entitlements/emoluments after check-in.
• Advise staff members on their entitlements when necessary.
• Request relevant documentation from staff member to process their entitlements.
• Monitor the staff member’s contractual status and request recommendations of extension from the Section Heads at least six weeks prior to the expiry of the staff member’s contracts.
• Review staff member’s medical clearances upon expiry of appointment and request periodic medical examinations when required prior to renewal of appointments.
• Review and follow-up on the timely receipt of the electronic performance appraisal reports (e-PAS) from staff and their supervisors prior to extension of appointments.

Commitment to implementing the goal of gender equality by ensuring the equal participation and full involvement of women and men in all aspects of peace operations. Client Orientation: Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with supervisors and colleagues. Communication: Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally. Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity is necessary. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with supervisors and colleagues.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma. Post-secondary education at college, university or specialized training institution is an asset. Nature and level of specialized training should include office management/business administration and technical and communications skills. Experience: At least 4 years of experience and a high level of demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience with UN/NGO or other International bodies an added asset. Languages skills: Fluency in written and spoken English. Other skills: Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Demonstrate effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner.

2- The United Nations Personal History form (P-11);
3- Academic Certificate(s) and/or High School/Secondary Diploma;
4- Birth Certificate – if not, a combination of (i) Assessment of Age and National Passport or (ii) Assessment of Age and National ID Card (the Assessment of Age on its own is not acceptable);
5- Three (3) letters of reference from former employers or academic instructors for external candidates;
6- Internal candidates must submit the two (2) most recent performance evaluations (e-PAS).
